It has been a six-hour bus drive to Wrocław, Poland.
As I arrive at the bus station I can already see Matylda and her boyfriend
waiting for me, not knowing that I can see them behind the bus window.
I start to get nervous and an enormous smile won’t leave my face.
I walk into Matylda’s arms and it feels strange to finally get to know her in person
even tough we have been writing letters for a couple of years now. I hear her voice
for the fist time and I see her boyfriend that I know from her letters more
than he maybe knows.
We enjoy some coffee and tea for me in a market hall that is also the subject of
the first photo I will take in Poland. They both decide to take me to the botanical
garden because Matylda knows the beauty of this place and want to show it to me.
It seems a lot different to the ones I have been to before.
More wild grown and somehow more beautiful.
The greenhouses are very flat and filled with many many plants.
One little greenhouse is the home of many different kinds of Ivy.
Only Ivy! Even on the ceiling are stickers
of Ivy to make it look like a wild growing Ivy forest.
We walk over wooden bridges, the night comes slowly and we pass
this little enlighted window that is shining between a wall that is overgrown with
wild wine leaves. In the warm light that makes the old buildings shine
we walk trough the city, looking for
a restaurant that is known for the good pizza!
As we enter we lift our coats so that the heat
of the pizza oven can warm our already cold bodies.
The next day greets us with the rainy weather so we take our umbrellas on our way
to the art museum. The building is all white from the inside and we are almost the
only visitors early in the morning. I feel like entering a world from the future coming from
the old city with the grey, but beautiful buildings.
After we looked at all the paintings we are ready for some good tea, coffee & cake in
the middle of the gallery. It’s made by two of her friends that work there and are
afraid to speak in english with me. ;) While Matylda takes the best coffee in town
that is made with so much care and beauty that I want to look at them forever and try it even tough
I will decide for the best fruit tea at the end.
Full of yummy things we enter the tram to the city center to look at the market and
some bookstores with old books. Her boy is joining us later on the way to her university
where she studies Painting. We eat the biggest crepe and start to walk to the most
beautiful lake where we see dried high red grass with silver heads on our way that
looks almost unreal so pretty it is!
Finally we reach the lake with many plants in the pockets of my coat.
Before it starts to get dark we start to walk home to have some tea on the bed that warms
u from the inside. Our feet hurt, but we are happy talking about every little
thing, just like we used to in our letters.
Tomorrow I will be in Krakow.
